THIS
SECTION IS WRITTEN MAINLY FOR DOCTORS AND THERAPISTS:
Restoration of sensorimotor control and function: This
is the most important outcome as all other outcomes are
secondary. Correction of dysafferentation and restoration of
neural control and proprioceptive reflex activity is critical to
full recovery. (see more on this in the Institute section for
doctors and therapists
Increased
Muscular Relaxation and Penetration: The degree of muscular
relaxation and most especially, the speed in which it is accomplished
is remarkable. This is due to the Trigenics® procedures causing rapid
neurophysiological muscle release reflexes of the target muscle at the
myopoint.
Decreased
Pain: The Trigenics® patient does not experience nearly as much
discomfort as one would normally experience when receiving deep tissue
work. During application of Trigenics® to the involved area, nerve
reflex pathways are also activated that inhibit the pain signals going
to the area of involvement. This may be partially due to activation of
the additional mechanoreceptors in the Pacinian Corpuscles located in
the antagonist. Mechanoreceptor information arrives in the spinal cord
before nociceptive information. The atypical interneurons constantly
stimulated by mechanoreceptor activity, release met-enkephalin that
inhibits the activity of the nociceptive afferents. This pre-synaptically
creates inhibition of pain signals from reaching the higher brain
centers. It is also believed that localized pressure with maintained
resisted movement of the agonist may strongly activate the dorsal
column system. This will further stimulate the endorphin producing
hypothalamus, via prolonged bombardment of mechanoreceptor
afferentation during movement. For this reason, the Trigenist is able
to penetrate deeper into the tissues without causing pain and reflex
spasm. Again, this enables the Practitioner to achieve a far more
beneficial effect than with other traditional methods.
Response
Time: Of importance to busy Practitioners and patients, is that
using Trigenics® enables the practitioner to very rapidly, if not
almost instantaneously, provide significant long-lasting relief to
patients with musculotendinous, arthromusculotendinous and
neuromusculotendinous conditions. Most find the speed in which
significant relief is achieved with Trigenics® to be unprecedented.
(Treatments are usually 5 -15 minutes with relief of individualized
specific points achieved within seconds.)
Adhesion
and Fibrosis Reduction: Adhesions are found to rapidly dissipate
within a few Trigenics® treatments. This is thought to be partially due
to the effect of pressurized movement of the adhesion during the
procedure, which mechanically breaks down the offensive tissue.
Anti-inflammatory:
Trigenics® is also clinically effective in reducing musculotendinous
inflammation. Unlike other manual therapies, Trigenics® can be applied
in the immediate post injury phase. Clinically an immediate observable
decrease in inflammation is noted following application. The observed
anti-inflammatory response is suspected to be partially due to heavily
sustained mechanoreceptor activation with resultant inhibition of the
nociceptors, which are stimulated by the presence of muscle spasm
byproducts (lactic acid) and inflammation (prostaglandins, histamine,
bradykinin, etc.)
Stress
Reduction and Accelerated Recovery: General Trigenics® treatments
will leave many patients feeling very relaxed and free of stress. This
is thought to be partially due to the cumulative effect of repeated
Autogenic Breathing which focuses the "Chi" or "biomenergy"
(body-mind meridian energy) to flow to the parts of the body that
require it. In addition, the incorporation of target visualization in
Autogenic Breathing, as part of the core treatment protocol for
Trigenics, is in keeping with current research supporting the
mind-body connection. From a Western perspective, proper deep
breathing with directed and focused thought can cause brain wave
changes to occur putting the brain into a meditative state called
"alpha."
Trigenics
Neuromyol Reduction: The Trigenist
maintains contact on the myopoint while following the muscular
response and, as they facilitate a furthering of the response by
subtly changing the direction of pressure, they will often notice a
sudden giving way or change in the consistency of the muscle. Aptly
described as "one second there, the next second gone", a
popping feeling or sound may accompany this change in consistency. The
patient typically experiences an immediate sense of relief in the
area.
Increased Range of Motion: Dramatic, immediate increases in range of motion
are observed following Trigenics® treatments. This is especially most
observable in the shoulders and neck. It stands to reason that, if a
Trigenics® treatment effectively dissipates contracture of the muscles
holding and traversing the joint, the joint would experience more
freedom in its mobility.
Mood
Elevation and myoneural Emotional Response: One will also
often find that Trigenics® will have the most pleasant effect of
causing a trademark sense of well being, lightness, heightened
awareness and euphoria. This is thought to be due to Trigenics® having
an excitatory effect on the bodies endogenous opioids system via the
release of endorphins. Stimulation of relevant acupuncture points can
result in the release of endorphins, enkephalins and endorphins. Some
patients also involuntarily experience a Trigenics® myoneural
Emotional Response, as they find themselves suddenly uncontrollably
giddy or in tears during or immediately following the treatment. This
release is considered a positive outcome as patients invariably report
feeling a tremendous sense of relief, relaxation and ability to sleep
after the reaction has dissipated.
It is believed that because a Trigenics® treatment is applied to a
neurologically facilitated muscle undergoing movement, the muscles
optimum relaxation response is further being facilitated. This is
because neurological stimulation occurs over a broad range of lengths.
In other words the relaxatory effect of the treatment becomes
cumulative as multiple treatments are being successively applied
during each individual procedure. Ultimately, with the muscle in many
different successive positions or lengths during application of a
Trigenics® procedure, additional cross bridge binding potentials are
instantaneously produced with an overall cumulative increase of vast
muscle power.
The
beneficial effect of instantaneous muscle strengthening has huge
implications for the athletic community.
(See Athletes for more)
Muscle
Lengthening: Adjunctive Trigenics® muscle lengthening techniques
also utilizes the neurophysiological effect of the inverse myotatic
reflex in conjunction with the addition of Proprioceptive Dynamic
Acupressure. This adjunctive Trigenics® procedure is often performed
following the initial procedure if the patient continues to experience
some tightness or discomfort in chronically tight or fibrotic areas.
It is very effective in completing the alleviation of partially
persistent symptoms.
Trigenics
Joint Manipulation: A repeated observation, in providing spinal
treatment to long-standing patients was that they did not require
nearly as much adjusting following a Trigenics® treatment as they
normally did without a Trigenics® treatment. It also became apparent
that these patients did not elicit as much cavitation
("popping" noise) with spinal manipulation after they had
received spinal Trigenics. These observations are of significant
importance, as Trigenics® seems to be increasing vertebral joint
mobility when applied to fixated areas of the spine. In some cases,
application of only Trigenics® to the spine created cavitation. As has
already been stated, observations similar to those made of the spine
have also been made in extremity joints.
